A: Built-in Reference Resistance: Inside the cover placed over the measuring pins (electrodes) of the meter, there is a built-in fixed resistor with a known, very precisely defined electrical resistance value. This built-in resistance simulates a specific, constant moisture level in the measured material.

When the cap is on, the meter measures the electrical resistance of the internal built-in resistor. If the meter's electronic circuits are functioning correctly, the read value should exactly match the known reference value (e.g., the display should show approximately 20.5% RH, which means the meter is working properly).
